Utility System Modelling

OPTIMISED UTILITY SYSTEM
OPERATION, SIMULATION AND DESIGN

Do you need to:

Know the real cost of steam?
Optimise your operation because of varying process demands or changing energy tariffs?

Evaluate the real value of different power plant options?

Design your steam system for future changes in demand?

We can help you save time and money. With well over 10 years of experience in the field of utility system analysis and modelling, Linnhoff March engineers consistently identify low-cost energy saving opportunities and capital cost savings.

Over 100 steam system models built and verified in Microsoft® Excel, using our utility system modelling software
Up to 2-5 % operational energy cost reductions achieved with zero capital  investment

Up to 15% total operational cost reduction when including utility system capital projects

With applications in the all major industries our steam system modelling capability has proved to focus attention where the greatest benefits can be found. Whether you are involved with operational monitoring and optimisation or with the design of utility systems, a steam system model will allow you to focus more effectively on capital and energy cost reduction and on the fast evaluation of ‘What if…’ scenarios.

Steam model capability

A big advantage of the Linnhoff March modelling software is its flexibility. Our ProSteam® software is used to build planning models that allow the engineer to evaluate potential projects, carry out what-if scenarios and analyse future production trends.  Typical applications of a utility system planning model include accurate costing of utility system projects including cogeneration, energy contract evaluation, emissions reduction, emissions reporting, production planning and demand forecasting.

Additional benefits can be obtained by applying our OptiSteam software and services to create a site specific utility system optimiser that will automatically determine least cost utility system operation as  operational demands and economic conditions vary. An OptiSteam model can be set up for manual data input or be linked directly to the site DCS or data historian. Typically an optimiser can deliver energy cost reductions as high as 5% from operational changes requiring no capital investment.
